Sustainability Mission
We believe the pallet industry can — and must — be a force for environmental good. Every decision we make, from sourcing to delivery, is guided by one question: how do we minimize our footprint while maximizing value for our customers?
Join Our Green Mission
Six Pillars of Our Eco Commitment
Circular Economy
Every pallet we collect enters a closed-loop system: inspect, repair, reuse, and only then recycle. Wood that can't become a pallet again becomes mulch, animal bedding, or biomass fuel.
Carbon Reduction
Recycling a single pallet saves an average of 27 lbs of CO₂ compared to manufacturing a new one. At 500,000 pallets per year, that's over 13.5 million lbs of CO₂ we're keeping out of the atmosphere.
Forest Conservation
Every recycled pallet is a tree that doesn't need to be cut down. We estimate our operations save over 12,000 mature trees annually — that's about 200 acres of forest preserved each year.
Zero Landfill
We maintain a strict zero-landfill policy. Pallet components that can't be reused as structural lumber are chipped into landscape mulch, composted, or converted to energy through approved biomass facilities.
Water Conservation
Manufacturing new pallets requires significant water for lumber processing. By reusing existing pallets, we conserve an estimated 12 gallons of water per pallet — over 6 million gallons annually.
Local Sourcing
All pallets are sourced within a 50-mile radius of Tucson, keeping transportation emissions minimal and supporting the local circular economy.
Our Carbon Footprint
We track every ton of CO₂ our operations produce — and every ton we prevent. The result is a net-negative carbon footprint, meaning we eliminate far more emissions than we create.
| Category | Emissions | Savings |
|---|---|---|
| Pallet collection & transport | 420 tons CO₂/year | — |
| Facility operations (sorting, repair) | 185 tons CO₂/year | — |
| Heat treatment kiln | 95 tons CO₂/year | — |
| Avoided new pallet manufacturing | — | -6,750 tons CO₂/year |
| Avoided landfill methane emissions | — | -1,200 tons CO₂/year |
| Mulch replacing synthetic ground cover | — | -310 tons CO₂/year |
| Net Annual Impact | 700 tons produced | -8,260 tons avoided |
Net Result: -7,560 tons CO₂/year
Our operations prevent over 10x the carbon they produce. That's equivalent to taking 1,640 cars off the road annually.
New vs. Recycled Pallets
The numbers speak for themselves. Choosing recycled pallets reduces environmental impact across every measurable dimension.
| Metric | New Pallet | Recycled Pallet |
|---|---|---|
| CO₂ Emissions | 27 lbs per pallet | Near zero |
| Trees Required | 0.15 trees per pallet | Zero |
| Water Usage | 12 gallons per pallet | Near zero |
| Energy Consumption | 6.1 kWh per pallet | 0.8 kWh (transport only) |
| Landfill Impact | 30 lbs wood waste | Zero waste |
| Cost to Business | $12–$20+ | $5–$10 |
| Chemical Treatment | Pesticides & preservatives often required | Heat treatment only (chemical-free) |
| Supply Chain Lead Time | 2–4 weeks (lumber sourcing) | Same-day or next-day availability |
Life Cycle of a Pallet
From collection to end-of-life recycling, here is the complete journey of a pallet through our closed-loop system.
Sourcing & Collection
Used pallets are collected from warehouses, distribution centers, retail stores, and manufacturers across Tucson and Southern Arizona. Our fleet runs dedicated pickup routes five days a week, and businesses can also schedule on-demand pickups through our buyback program.
Inspection & Grading
Every pallet is individually inspected by trained sorters. Pallets are graded A through D based on structural integrity, board condition, and dimensional accuracy. Grade A pallets go directly back into inventory. Lower grades move to the repair shop.
Repair & Rebuild
Damaged pallets are disassembled and rebuilt using reclaimed lumber from other pallets. Broken boards are replaced, loose nails are reset, and split stringers are reinforced. Our repair shop restores approximately 800 pallets per day.
Heat Treatment (If Required)
Pallets destined for international shipping enter our ISPM-15 certified kiln, where core wood temperature reaches 56 degrees Celsius for a minimum of 30 minutes. Each treated pallet receives the official IPPC compliance stamp.
Redistribution & Delivery
Restored pallets are stacked, inventoried, and staged at our loading docks for delivery. Our fleet delivers across Tucson and Southern Arizona with same-day and next-day options. Pallets re-enter the commercial supply chain, extending their useful life by years.
End-of-Life Recycling
When a pallet finally reaches the end of its structural life, it is dismantled completely. Usable boards are kept for future repairs. Remaining wood is chipped into landscape mulch, animal bedding, or biomass fuel. Zero material reaches a landfill.
Sustainability Certifications
Our environmental commitments are backed by recognized certifications and memberships that hold us accountable to the highest standards.
ISO 14001 Aligned
Our environmental management system follows ISO 14001 standards for planning, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of our environmental performance. We conduct annual internal audits to maintain alignment.
Arizona Green Business Certified
Certified by the Arizona Commerce Authority as a Green Business for our waste diversion, energy efficiency, and resource conservation practices. Recertified in 2024 after a comprehensive facility audit.
ISPM-15 Heat Treatment Certified
Our heat treatment kiln is fully certified under the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15. All heat-treated pallets carry the IPPC stamp, making them compliant for international shipment to any country.
NWPCA Member
Active member of the National Wooden Pallet & Container Association. We adhere to NWPCA best practices for pallet design, repair quality standards, and environmental stewardship across all operations.
Our Partnerships
Sustainability at scale requires collaboration. We partner with local organizations, government agencies, and academic institutions to amplify our environmental impact.
Tucson Waste Management & Recycling
We work directly with Tucson's municipal waste management to intercept pallets from the commercial waste stream before they reach the landfill. This partnership diverts an estimated 3,000 pallets per month that would otherwise be buried or burned.
Southern Arizona Recycling Centers
We maintain standing agreements with six recycling centers across Pima, Santa Cruz, and Cochise counties. These centers route all incoming pallets to our facility rather than processing them as general wood waste, ensuring maximum reuse potential.
Arizona Forestry Council
As a supporting member of the Arizona Forestry Council, we contribute data on wood fiber reclamation and participate in annual studies measuring how pallet recycling reduces pressure on Arizona's timber resources and national forest lands.
University of Arizona Sustainability Office
We collaborate with UA's Office of Sustainability on research projects measuring the lifecycle environmental impact of recycled vs. new pallets. Graduate students regularly conduct fieldwork at our facility, and their findings are published in peer-reviewed journals.
Our Recycling Process
Collection
We pick up used pallets from warehouses, factories, and distribution centers across Tucson.
Inspection & Grading
Every pallet is inspected for structural integrity and sorted into Grade A, B, C, or recycling.
Repair & Rebuild
Damaged pallets are repaired using reclaimed lumber. Broken boards, loose nails, and split stringers are fixed.
Redistribute
Restored pallets re-enter the supply chain. Materials beyond repair become mulch, bedding, or biofuel.
Future Goals
Our sustainability work is never finished. Here is our roadmap for the next five years — concrete targets with real timelines.
Solar-Powered Facility
Install a 250 kW rooftop solar array across our sorting and repair buildings. This system is projected to offset 80% of our facility's electricity consumption and reduce grid-sourced energy costs by over $40,000 annually.
Electric Delivery Vehicles
Begin transitioning our delivery fleet to electric trucks, starting with four Class 6 electric flatbed trucks for our Tucson metro routes. We aim to have 50% of our fleet running electric by 2028.
Rainwater Harvesting System
Install a 50,000-gallon rainwater harvesting system to irrigate facility landscaping and supply our dust suppression system. In Tucson's desert climate, every gallon counts.
750,000 Pallets Per Year
Expand processing capacity to 750,000 pallets annually by adding a second sorting line and extending operating hours. This growth will be driven by new partnerships with Phoenix-area logistics companies.
1 Million Pallets Per Year
Reach the milestone of recycling one million pallets in a single year, making us the largest pallet recycler in Arizona. This target requires a second facility location, which we plan to open in the greater Phoenix area by 2029.
